Single Parent Dating

Single parent dating gives parents a way to meet other adults and possible form a strong relationship. The term refers to parents who are no longer with their spouse (or possibly never were). This situation can arise for a number of reasons. The individual may have been married before but went through a divorce. Their spouse may have passed away. In other cases, there may have never actually been a spouse. The parent may have had a child with someone they were dating or intimately involved with and ended the relationship. There are many ways adults can become single parents, and each situation brings with it a unique history and circumstance.

Priorities of Single Parents

When an individual specifically seeks out other single parents, there is usually a high priority placed on their children and the concept of family in general. Many individuals label themselves single parents when searching for a potential mate. That doesn’t mean they will only date other single parents, but it usually does mean that their potential date must be willing to accept the fact that they have children.

Singles who do not want to have children in their lives are generally not a good match for single parents. Not all singles have a preference when it comes to children. Some men and women who do not have their own children are neutral about whether or not their potential date does.  Before becoming involved in a single parent dating relationship, both partners should have an understanding about the presence and influence of children in their relationship.

Seeking a Single Parent Dating Relationship

Many dating websites offer a diverse service that covers all types of possible users. These usually include an area for the user to add whether or not they have children or want them in the future.  A single parent can use this information to refine their search and locate others who either are parents or are willing to accept their children should the relationship become a long term situation.

Before attempting a single parent dating relationship, the parent should make a point to tell their potential partner that they already have children. Even though someone may indicate that they want children, they may not be as willing to accept the fact that their partner has children to another man or woman. This should be discussed prior to getting seriously involved to ensure that the single parent dating relationship is built between two compatible people.
